Fujiya & Miyagi - Knickerbocker

This is a true visual treat. I remember Scottish childhood star, Lena Zavaroni. She was brought up in Rothesay on the Isle Of Bute. From the age of 13, she suffered from anorexia nervosa. Zavaroni sang at a Hollywood charity show with Frank Sinatra in 1974, at which he commented, "You’re special. Very special and very, very good..." So sad to see such talent short lived. Right Side Mix By Mr Tony Humphries

Always a pleasure to receive music in my email inbox, and delighted I was to hear about Tony Humphries latest mix (08.14.08) posted at his site http://www.tonyrecords.net. It features the track 'I Remember Crocket' by Wayne Cooper, a tribute to the late Nathaniel 'Crocket' Wilkie, who indeed had some serious history in the music business. He played on all the village people records including YMCA, and on the Ritchie family album and toured with Patty Labell for almost 20 years. Great to see some other familiar artistes in this mix as well, K. Joy and Abicahsoul... ok no more name dropping, time to queue it up and play! CLICK ON BLOG HEADER, CHECK IT! DIG IT! TONY HUMPHRIES! The Mystery And Anonymity, Respects And Intrigues.

It’s perfectly acceptable for an electronic music artist to remain anonymous. Iconic Detroit techno act Underground Resistance and Parisian house masters Daft Punk are never seen without their masks and tracks crafted by producers (some well known, some not) under the guise of an alias regularly devastate dance floors simply because they’re good, not because of who made it. When dubstep producer Burial made his debut in 2005 with his South London Boroughs EP, he opted not to show his face or talk to the press. While many were curious about his identity, few lost sleep about it since his subsequent productions were so incredibly good.
While one-named, angst-ridden, renegade folk artist Jandek has never revealed his identity over the span of 50 albums, it seems Burial’s nomination earlier this year for a coveted Mercury Music Prize inspired Gordon Smart, a writer for UK tabloid The Sun, to embark on a self-appointed mission to discover the identity of the man he calls “the Banksy of music.”
Smart urged readers to help him “dig up the real Burial” and it was obvious that some people just messed with his head. “A reader texted me this curious puzzle: ‘Burial is not Jesus but was born of Mary. The riddle takes you to Germany where no is the Kode.’”

Burial succumbed to the pressure and revealed his identity in May of this year on his MySpace blog. “my names will bevan, im from south london, im keeping my head down and just going to finish my next album, theres going to be a 12″ maybe in the next few weeks too with 4 tunes. hope u like it, i’ll try put a tune up later.” He added: “im a lowkey person and i just want to make some tunes, nothing else.”

Although the cat was already out of the bag, Smart, who apparently didn’t check Burial’s MySpace page, devoted another column wondering about the producer’s identity. Perhaps justice was served when The Guardian gloated that Burial’s identity had already been revealed in an article their paper ran about the Elliot School back in February.
The mystery and anonymity in an artiste is almost as attractive as the music they produce. I was saddened to read Burial's identity was revealed, somehow it affected my feelings towards the music he produced. I lost a certain feeling of enchantment, but I will always remain interested, captivated and curious by his work... Burial, Live On In Peace!

Radiohead Everything in Its Right Place (perfect audio)

Everything in its right place has been written with that subtle brilliance which makes everything about Radiohead so deep. It's captivating, mesmerising, and from the first bar played in the introduction, through to the end of this song, I feel a rush of adrenalin through my body which comes in waves and intervals as the song progresses... leaving an array of goosebumps on my skin. Radiohead give an extremely sensational performance. I love it :)

Band Members: Colin Greenwood, Jonny Greenwood, Ed O'Brien, Phil Selway, Thom Yorke

Radiohead's new single, House of Cards, features a promotional video that has been "filmed" without the use of a camera or conventional lighting. Instead the band has used two advanced visualisation techniques to produce an assembly of computer renderings in real time

Cakes Factory Session July 2008

Rogério Cunha, aka CakesFactory, an Electronic Music lover, particularly for the deep and soulful side of House Music. His first experience as a DJ was in a hotel bar with rudimentary equipment. At the age of 17 , he finally got his first pair of turntables, which for him was a fundamental step in his relation with music. With sporadic shows as a DJ, he continued with studies without, however, leaving the music behind. After a stop period to get a job, CakesFactory created the DeeperSoul Blog to share his love for deep/soulful House and to promote the genre and its artists. Not wanting to reduce the blog to something strictly personal, he invited diverse djs to participate and it grew up very fast. Then he created the DeeperSoul Sessions, mixed sets by himself and friends, available for listen/download, and Interviews... DeeperSoul Blog was no longer a personal blog.

Turn On, Tune In, Bug Out!

London born Simon Halpin grew up in the big smoke during the late 80's and 1990's and was influenced by the cultural and music movements happening at that time. He remembers school dinner-time when kids would loosen the fat laces on their Puma's, throw down some cardboard and have dance-off's to the new and exciting music coming out of the states. Early hip hop influences gave way to a more electronic sound coming out of Chicago, as it fused with Balearic music the British were discovering in Ibiza. House music in all its forms had arrived in London and soon people would be dancing to it in everywhere from warehouses to car parks, fields to community centers. As London club-land began to fragment and warehouses became super clubs, Simon went along for the ride - experiencing both the more underground dance music parties, alongside those which at the time were considered to be a little more "happening" by London trend setters. Summers would often be spent in Ibiza, experiencing everything the white island had to offer. All of this had a tremendous influence on Simon's music and his life.

Naturally House music would eventually lead Simon back to Disco and New York City, as he found himself in New York at David Maucuso's Loft party. David Mancuso's parties expanded the mind both musically and socially. Acid rock was played alongside acid house and dub with disco. People from every walk of life danced together without inhibition, in a lovingly decorated room, with music played on a sound system which really needed to be heard to be believed. It may have taken a while to find but the search was worth it. Simon had found h-OM-e. New York also had the newly renamed club Vinyl, which hosted Timmy Regisford's Shelter, in addition to Francois K, Joe Claussell and Danny Krivit's Body and Soul. Both of these parties, along with Francois K's current Deep Space party have had a tremendous influence on Simon.

Today Simon is a key part of London based Lucky Cloud Sound System, a creative collective who have hosted David Mancuso's London Loft parties since 2003. Simon heads up PR for Lucky Cloud, as well as being part of a dedicated crew of balloon blowers and sound system luggers who make the parties happen. More recently, with Cosmo he has hosted Cosmodelica at London club Plastic People. He's also been lucky enough to guest DJ at Beauty and the Beat.

Working with Guillaume Chottin, Simon is a founding member of DeepFrequency.com and its here he's decided to express all his musical influences in a fortnightly Sunday show called "Blood, Sweat & Tears", starting at 8pm GMT. See schdule for show dates.

Radio Hour #16: August 8th, interview with DJ BROADWAY

Soul To Unite Radio Hour has a new mix on their site which appealed to me because in amongst a very soulful house selection, I spotted a Tribal Winds production... Antonio Ocasio..I have always regarded him to be somewhat mysterious in character, probably a great deal of his personality is projected through his amazing love for music, and for that reason I hope he will always remain a producer who enchants and intrigues me. ' Blacktro '

Long-term New York underground king, Jerome Sydenham has been on a roll ever since he dropped 'Sandcastles' a few years ago. Discovering a new darker sound that he himself has dubbed 'Blacktro' he has developed a heavy but deep main floor sound that is as brutal as it is beautiful. Taking Spencer Parker's economical modern killer 'Chiho' (first heard on recent 5 Golden Years anthology) he has rinsed out the riff and added a thrusting beefed-up driving groove. Both the orig and Sydenham mixes will be out in late September.
http://www.buzzinfly.com/ will be streaming it soon ...

Body Music

vangelis (pictured)
DJ Andy Bird founder member of Body Music, has a new mix out quite appropriately titled:-'Birdsong music "My Name Is..." Mixtape.' It has been a while since he has put together a set of selective tracks and this, his latest mix, whets the appetite for more. A wonky extravaganza, taking in the heady heights of jazz, techno, latin, afro, disco & some Chaz Jankel, I cannot help but wonder if Osunlade's recent appearance live, with Bugz In The Attic at a recent Body And Music event in London, has influenced Birdsong Music to produce an intriguing mix such as this.
