Interview: The Martinez Brothers
XLR8R talks to the Bronx boys about their favorite gear and tunes...
1. Powerline “Double Journey”
This was one of the first disco records we ever heard and was on constant replay with us. The piano line just always captivated us, not to mention the sick bassline.
2. Kerri Chandler “Never Knew Her”
One of the first house records we ever heard, and a record that also introduced us to Kerri. It really inspired us to dig for "that sound" and of course for Kerri's stuff as well.
3. Vince Watson “Mystical Rhythms”
We first heard this at a Joe Claussell party and it just blew us away! Amazing!
4. Pat Metheny “Are You Going With Me”
Just listen to the record!
5. Slum Village Featuring Q Tip “Hold Tight”
J. Dilla on drums, D'Angelo on keys, and Slum Village and Q Tip on the mic–what more could you ask for?!

Spotlight On... Jamie Principle
Jamie Principle house music producer and vocalist born in Chicago, Illinois. He began having entries on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart in the early nineties, including "Cold World," a #22 dance hit that is a collaboration with Steve "Silk" Hurley.
His 1985 track Your Love (with Frankie Knuckles) is arguably the earliest house track as it was played regularly at the Warehouse for over a year before being released on vinyl ('On and On' by Jesse Saunders was released first), although as early house is indistinct from disco there were other songs from the era that contributed to the new genre in mid 1980's Chicago. The stripped down disco track was a sensation in the city's underground despite never being released on vinyl. The success of the song relied entirely upon tapes being copied and circulated throughout the clubs.
In 2004 he hit #1 on the US dance chart with "Back N Da Day," on which he collaborated again with the legendary Mr Frankie Knuckles.

Z-Trip Offers ‘Party For Change’ DJ Mix in Support of Obama
Coming days after The Crystal Method reworked one of its older songs to support Barack Obama’s presidential run, Z-Trip has created a DJ mix in support of the Democratic candidate. Z-Trip’s mix arrives on the eve of the vice-presidential debate tonight between Sen. Joe Biden (D) and Gov. Sarah Palin (R). The revered turntablist included the following note with his mix:
Shepard Fairey and I threw some fundraisers for the Obama campaign. We called them “The Party for Change.” (If you don’t know who Shepard is—among many other things—he is the one responsible for the image on the top of this page).
I’ve been wanting to put the mix I’ve been doing at these shows online, in hopes of spreading the word to people who need to hear it most. So, here it is.
I encourage you to download it and pass it along to anyone you think should hear it. Feel free to burn copies, share it with friends, family, co-workers, strangers, and especially anyone you know is on the fence about this election. I’m also putting out a radio friendly version, in case anyone wants to broadcast it.
Please share the message. Educate those who may not know what is really going on. There is still time.
If you, or anyone you know, isn’t registered to vote, I encourage you to make it a priority and fix that before it’s too late. This election is WAY too important for anyone to not get involved. If you need more information on how and where to register, vote, or participate, please check the links below.
I honestly feel if we make our voices heard, this time WILL be different.
Peace,
Z-TRIP

Proud To Be Scottish
Elizabeth Fraser (born 29 August 1963, Falkirk) is a Scottish singer, best known for her vocal work as the Cocteau Twins' lead singer. Her melismatic vocal stylings and abstract, indecipherable lyrics have generated much debate over the years, but she has often been discreet on the matter when asked about it. Liz Fraser makes me feel proud to be Scottish.

Yo DJ! bAG this!
Wicked 2 deep house tracks by LEP+ Osunlade & Vision Questa/Kevin Hedge(Blaze) on Grand Gallery label from 2007!
Side-A has the LEP + Osunlade track, with raw beats, deep basslines, moody keys, space-y synthe sounds + deep male voice talking over the track.
Side-B has also a superb deep instrumental track, with Blaze-y beats, deep basslines, synthe strings, musical piano phrases, space-y synthe sounds and occasional scatty female vocal!
Side-A
Lonesome Echo Productions feat. Osunlade
– Soul galactic : Mr. V remix
Side-B
Vision Questa
– Blossom ; Kevin Hedge & Ian Friday rmx
soulinhki, Nov 08, 2007 says...
Soul Galactic remix is pretty nice but it's the b-side what makes this record to one of my favourite house records in recent years. Blossom remix is a nine minutes long epic, complete with bossa rhythm, flutes and electric guitar. Some might say it's balearic, I say it's just pure class. Sadly this came out on a japan-only 12" which quickly disappeared (I bought it from UK and it was gone in a few days, I remember reading that this was a 500 or 600 copy pressing)

Dubbed Back To The Future.
Deep Space in Gunma - April 28, 2008 - Pt. 1
Deep Space in Gunma - April 28, 2008 - Pt. 2
After contemplating the slow death of minimal techno I find it very comforting and indeed reassuring that, through such genius works and productions from Deep Space NYC, people will always be moved, tuned in and never bored. Such spacey and deep, abstract and dubbed sounds... The future remains within Deep Space NYC.
The above mixes are essentials; any time listening, any place, and anywhere. Both are firm favourites of mine, from a very selective and deeply influential Francois K. "FOLLOW THE MUSIC SONG BY SONG AS IT FLOWS," is Deep Space NYC's tracklisting... Keep your sole mate locked, for a never ending, storytelling journey, is my advice...

Robert Henke And Cern-LHC

When I was at school I had a strong interest in physics, especially in nuclear physics and astrophysics. For quite some time I thought I might study physics and do research, until I had to realize that I am not nearly as smart as I would need to be in order to turn this into my profession. So I became a software developing, electronic music producing artist instead. However, I never lost interest in the topic. If you follow my work a bit you'll find all sorts of hints to my addiction in track titles, my info texts, photos and other statements
The track here is a new, extended edit of the track Cern, released in September 2003, augmented with interview fragments taken from the CERN website, where researchers talk about the LHC on the occasion of the first successful test of the whole machine on September 10 2008. For me, CERN not only stands for a place where thousands of the brightest people of this planet are working together to find out more about the most elemental questions of physics, but it also stands as a place where scientists from all over the world exchange knowledge, regardless of borders, regardless of race, regardless of sex.
Wikipedia is a good source for more information about CERN. And here is a link to a video that explains the LHC pretty well.
Cern-LHC.mp3* [ ~ 7minutes ]* with interview fragments featuring Mike Lamont, Verena Kain, Lucio Rossi, Laurette Ponce, Andrej Siemko and Lyn Evans.
