BuMako label is produced, composed and performed by Jenifa Mayanja, whose unique artistic vision and spirited trademark DJ sound are reflective of her exposure to a variety of musical sounds since childhood in her native country, Uganda. Notable DJ appearances include guest appearances at, Body and Soul, PS1’s Warm Up, SOBs as opening DJ for Groove Collective, Francois K’s Deep Space NYC, as well as her own events “Hamsa” and “BuMako” which were both featured in Timeout magazine NY. On the production tip she has collaborated with Anthony Nicholson (Trackmode Records, Clairaudience) as the “Descendants”, Alison Crockett aka Diva Blue (Sylk 130, Naked Music, wah wah 45’s) as the Djima project released on Lifeline Records, and Hipbone records with Vicki Bell and Alexis P. Suter (Open Door) as “Bakazi”.

Street photographer of the New York Underground, Peter Hujar spent the 1970's and 1980's documenting the acid fallout of the 1960's. He was the unofficial recorder of the cultural elite, capturing a city that thrived artistically, but was economically bankrupt. He also captured the gaunt-like revellers of Warhol's world, including the transvestite Candy Darling on her deathbed. An exhibition of his work commences in London at ICA, SW1, Jan 5 to Jan 27 08

KUDURO is born 10 years ago in Angola, created by Tony Amado, the Angolan's Grandmaster Flash ! KUDURO (Portuguese translation of... hard butt...) is a 100% Angolan production, totally electronic, composed by Angolans dj's. Frederic Galliano has crossed the way of kuduristas in Angola while he was travelling in Africa. The shock is instant and he then decides to produce an album in Luanda with DJ Kito da machina, a dozen of ...batidas... (beats) where the most notorious kuduristas from the capital were coming with their flows and lyrics. KUDURO is an electronic production ...made in... Africa, a singular musical style that gathered traditional music & house with brazilian, caribbean and latin vibes. Beats are a savant mix of programming inspired by Angolan's carnival traditional rhythms at 140 Bpm (ancestor of the Brazilian samba) and accelerated house music beats. From this base with unexpected arrangements, kuduristas put their protest texts (in Portuguese). To go with those new rhythms, Tony Amado has also created a dance, at the same time hard, sensual and languid. This dance constitutes by itself a fascinating performance. ISOLÉE is Rajko Mueller, born in Frankfurt/Main.
Lived with his family in Algeria at the age of 7 to 12 and went to a French primary school (and on the week-ends to a beach called bomo plage…)
Came back to Frankfurt with his family in 1983 and went to school where he made a lot of spelling mistakes...
Around that time his parents bought an organ for Christmas and he tried to do some synth-pop with a school friend. They decided to buy a syntheziser and a drumcomputer…
Rajko was bored by synth-pop and EBM in the end of the eighties and listened more to rock and independent music. Friends made him discover house-music, hip-hop and techno in the early nineties. He restarted to copy this on his old syntheziser and soon realized the need of more equipment, that luckily his elder brother already bought because he liked electronic music too.
He gave a tape to his friend and DJ Andreas »ND« Baumecker, owner of FREUNDINNEN records, who worked in a record-store where the Playhouse guys used to work, too.
That was the beginning of some marvelous music by a guy named ISOLÉE.
