Sotu The Traveller

At 21, Sotu The Traveller is one of the youngest producers to release a full-fledged EP. Born in Haarlem, The Netherlands, he was in touch with music at an early stage in his life and decided to take on lessons in playing keys. His Turkish roots led him to replay what his peers played; both traditional and popular Turkish music. He went on to learn how to play (bass-) guitar and played in several live hiphop and reggea bands. Still in the middle of his teens he hooked up with someone who showed him the basics of creating beats using computer based applications, and from there on things evolved real fast. Being a quick learner, the result turned out to be heartfelt, jazzy and soulful yet rough around the edges. Besides working with a gang of different artists from Holland, he also worked on various commercial projects for major companies. Sotu, however, doesn´t feel limited to the country he lives in.He has worked (and still does) with many artists from NYC to Istanbul, but of course also collaborates with Dutch likeminds. Two trips to NYC led to the completion of some soulful material, and with help from Gregg Green, Maya Azucena, Hicoup and J.Keys, these international journeys ended up on his debut EP Daydreams. His organic sound will expand as he grows older and moves forward with other projects that are scheduled to come out in the near future. Besides his solo album, which he is currently working on, one of those projects is the 08Bar compilation album, which is an offspring of the 08Bar parties in Amsterdam (which he co-orgnanize) where aspiring producers are given the opportunity to shine by playing beats in the club. Also, he has ongoing collaborations with various MC´s and producers in Holland and the USA. With his capabilities of spotting samples and playing instruments, Sotu has no concerns for the future. The sound you will hear on his Daydreams EP doesn´t necessarily define what Sotu stands for. Consider it a preview of what´s to come! http://www.myspace.com/sotuthetraveller Here is an exclusive guest mix by Sotu The Traveller. Besides his solo Daydreams EP, released by Appletree Records, he recorded songs for many compilation albums including Brownswood Bubblers 2, 08Bar, Jazzadelic 07.02...
