Anapop Vol 2 : Osman Ismen

Osman İşmen who’s noted for more than 600 songs in his career. His own breed of jazz, soul and disco with folk has been used by well known Turkish singers like Nükhet Duru, Ferdi Özbeğen and Sezen Aksu. İşmen has forged Anatolian Folk with disco, break beat and afro beat’s vague minimalism with albums like Diskomatik, Disko Madımak and Disko Türkü which has been used for many Turkish movies of the time some of them starred by the comedian Kemal Sunal. He’s worked in TRT for years playing the piano, arranged foreign music to Turkish stars like Nilüfer and Ajda Pekkan and done countless other feats for Turkish stars while remaining practically in the background.

File That Vinyl? Nah.. Flog It!

DJ Mr.C (From Shamen / The End / Superfreq / Plink Plonk fame) is selling his entire House music & Techno music record collection including music from 1985 to June 2008.

This collection is a complete collection of underground dance music & as a complete collection would be perfect to be kept together for the sake of archiving alone.

When Mr.C moved house 10 years ago he separated his then 16.000 unit record collection into 2 halves, 1 which he considered to be too valuable to sell & the other half, records that although good held no sentimental value.

He sold 8,000 units at this time & kept the 8,000 units that he considered gems & could not possibly get rid of. It is now this collection along with all of the amazing records he's acquired since 1998 that are for sale as this extremely interesting job lot.

The music includes absolute dance music classics from New York Garage, through Chicago House, through Acid House, through Detroit Techno, through Belgium New Beat, through Tech House, through Minimal House & beyond & contains approximately 15,000 + pieces of vinyl.

All of this music is used but in great condition as Mr.C always looked after these tunes that he holds dear. The reason for the sale is that Mr.C will be moving to another country in the summer of 2009 & believes that these records would be better being used by someone that will love them & value them as he does instead of them simply sitting in storage forever.

Should this sale not go ahead Mr.C will then go on to sell these records individually. A lot of these records are highly collectable & worth £40 - £50+ each.

Selling the entire collection individually would bring somewhere in the region of £150,000.00 - £200,000.00 but due to Mr.C's desire to keep the collection together, he'll part with the whole collection for a knock down price of £75,000.00 as a minimum bid.

Beatles Rare 'White Album' For Sale On eBay

This Beatles Album has actually sold over 19 million copies but because the one currently on sale on ebay, is serial number 0000005, this is what makes this particular copy quite a little treasure.
Record Collector magazine ranked this 1968 mono double LP as Number 1 in its list of the 200 Rarest Records Of All Time.

John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr snatched up numbered copies 0000001 to 0000004, and no telling when, if ever, they'll make it onto the market.

On 22 November it will be exactly 40 years ago since The Beatles released (official title)"The Beatles" Album, which I assume must add to the 'must have' rarity of the ep and to the price! The current bid stands at £6,605.51 that's $9852.75... I reckon I would be waving the 'white' flag long before close of sale.

Bootlegs: Unauthorized At Any Speed

Bootlegs have always been a part of dance music culture, but in an age where online documentation should hypothetically render the practice impossible to pull off, some stores still sell them. The Louder You Scream, The Faster We Go!

Today is a sad day for fans of the fun fair as the famous corkscrew ride rolls its wheels for the last time ever. Unable to compete with faster and more daring rides, the corkskrew still remains however to be a favourite with the public. Unfortunately, screaming as loud as you possibly can, still will not bring back the biggest thrill of the fair. Apparently whilst dismantling the ride items found on site were underwear and a diamond ring! I wonder if they belonged to the same person ..lol!

The Sound of Philly.. All Boxed Up!

The O’Jays, Jean Carne, Harold Melvin & The Bluenotes, Teddy Pendergrass, MFSB, Three Degrees, Bunny Sigler, Patti LaBelle, The Spinners, Archie Bell & The Drells, Billy Paul and The Stylistics, are just a sampling of the artists that became synonymous with the Philly Sound.

Long overdue, “Love Train: The Sound of Philadelphia” is a 4 CD Set collection of continuous hits that will invoke memories, both good an bad.

Below you will find a clip from the PBS “Love Train” program, featuring Harold Melvin’s Bluenotes.

About Philadelphia International Records

In 1971, Gamble and Huff founded PIR as the outlet for their creative vision. Building a stable of Philly-based talent, PIR reached the tops of the charts from day one. In one memorable nine month period during 1972-73, they sold over 10 million records as Billy Paul’s Grammy-winning “Me & Mrs. Jones,” the O’Jays’ “Back Stabbers” and “Love Train,” Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes’ “If You Don’t Know Me By Now,” and the Intruders “I’ll Always Love My Mama” all charted at the same time.

PIR became the birthplace, incubator and launching pad for the Philly Soul sound, a unique blend of R&B rhythms, sweet soul vocals, deep funk grooves, pulsing horn charts and lush string arrangements with melodic structures combining elements of pop, jazz and world music. A sophisticated sound lovingly crafted by engineer Joe Tarsia at his Sigma Sound studios by some of the 20th century’s most influential producers and production teams – including Thom Bell, Linda Creed, Gene McFadden & John Whitehead, Bunny Sigler, Dexter Wansel, and others, including Gamble & Huff themselves – Philly Soul set the stage for disco, smooth jazz, adult contemporary music, quiet storm, and more.

Gamble & Huff’s PIR songs and productions have truly permeated the musical DNA of contemporary culture. They have been covered or sampled by a vast array of artists including Jay-Z, Babyface, Nelly, OutKast, Angie Stone, Simply Red (whose #1 version of “If You Don’t Know Me By Now” in 1989 earned Gamble & Huff the Best R&B Song Grammy), Bette Midler, Mary J. Blige, Michael Bublé, Kanye West, 50 Cent, and T.I., among many others.

When asked by Russell Hall of Performing Songwriter magazine, “What are the characteristics of a great song?” Kenny Gamble replied, “A great story.” To which Leon Huff added, “And a great melody.” And Gamble responded, “Like Duke Ellington said, ‘It don’t mean a thing if it ain’t got that swing.”
