Tresor Artiste Jeff Mills

Jeff Mills:
"Often, I am inspired to create music soon after watching movies or going to the cinema. The probable cause, my mind being inflicted becomes stimulated not only by the plot but also, intrigued by the method in which the producer chose to present the plot of film to the viewer. Communicating through stories has always been an intricate part of how mankind evolved. By translating and moralizing stories from generations past, the cascading of ethics somehow embed themselves within our subconscious. Thus creating a platform for individual behavior patterns. In this respect, the architecture of urbanism is the most definitive collaboration of intersecting platforms that we as humans have created. Urbanism, collectively existing in mass or secluding oneself within it? Whichever you believe, urban spree generates opportunity and inspiration. Despair and misfortune. It is often the catalyst for moral majority persuasion and cause for which most people think catapults right and wrong. Nevertheless, there must be a medium."

New Muzik Label Transforming Soon...

Dam Funk (Los Angeles, USA)

Known as Los Angeles' "Ambassador of Boogie Funk," dãm-funk represents the citizens of the Funkmosphere. Headquartered in the Culver City section of L.A., dãm (pronounced: 'Dame' as in Damon) spent the last few years cultivating a musical renaissance rooted in the early-'80s styles known as Boogie, Modern Soul and Electro-Funk. Anyone who grooves to the likes of Slave, Aurra, early Prince, Prelude Records and the like, will get a dose of those groups' unknown contemporaries – more obscure but equally Funk-worthy. By plugging in his arsenal of vintage synths and drum machines, dãm channels the galactic harmonies of his inspiration into his own
original "Modern-Funk" compositions.

WHAT'S...
so special about you, then?
The fact that I wasn't afraid to hold up the torch and show love for early 80's boogie and funk sounds, often created by very talented yet mostly neglected artists. I've done all this with respect for the music, in a true stomp-down way (not in a tongue in cheek way) smack dab in the middle of what seems to be a continuous hip hop-dominated music climate. Bottom line is that in this climate, I like to bring everybody from all sides and styles of urban music together. So far, it's been real cool. Also, people who really know me can tell you that I'm a funkster first and foremost, but one who embraces and digs any genre of music that's good. For example, some would not expect me, as heavy as I rep the funk, to be into the UK band Prefrab Sprout, but they're one of my favorites of all time. I think Paddy McAloon is a musical super genius.

...your worst vice?
Forgetting people's names (but never faces, trust me!)

...your favourite synth?
My mind. When it's focused and clear, it synthesizes the best.

...it like playing in LA with George Clinton and Funkadelic?
A funk dream come true.

...the world coming to?
A confirmation of the existence of intergalactic visitors to earth and throughout the universe (previously in time and now). How can we be so selfish to think otherwise? Look up in the night sky some time this summer and simply stop while gazing up and realistically ask yourself the question again. Once this truth is known and confirmed to the masses (because some of us already know...), the world will be a different place as we know it, along with the way we think as an entire human race. We will have hopefully progressed into a more intergalactic way of thinking, not just a self-centered worldly way of thinking (which often spirals us into so many of the petty grievances we deal with on a day to day basis with one another here on earth). This time, I feel, is not too far away on the horizon.

...the best thing about the eighties?
Prince.

...the sexiest song of all time?
"Special Things" by Jonnie Baby (a rare Elektra Records U.S. promo-only 12" & 7" single released in 1986 from a full LP that never came out. What a shame!). Modern soul and boogie wax collectors stand up!

...next year going to bring?
Respect for the funk and modern funk-based based music, as well as a well-deserved interest in the very vibrant Los Angeles underground music scene.

...at the top of your shit list?
George Bush and everything his regime stands for.

How would you describe your work?
Passionate. The real deal.

Christian Prommer And Jazz Radioshow, FIP

DJ and producer from Munich, Christian Prommer decides one day to record an acoustic interpretation of Title electro "String of Life" by Derrick May. Given the success of this version, he chose to continue the adventure with "Drumlesson vol.1." A concept album surprising and captivating which revisits 10 of the greatest classical electronic music.
The quartet composed of Roberto di Gioia (piano), Dieter Ilg (bass), Wolfgang Haffner (drums) and Ernst Ströer (percussion) succeeds perfectly to retransmit the energy and magic of the original securities.
Christian Prommer gave special attention to the sound of this album, to get the perfect unity.
And as its name indicates "Drumlesson vol.1" (lesson drums), 4 original titles named Drumlesson I to IV, which quite agree with the spirit of the album.

The Man Who Puts The Deep Into House.

Larry Heard has written some of the most essential and emotional music ever to grace the discotheques worldwide. As a seventeen year old rocker, Larry played drums in the group Infinity. Fed up with the limitations of that instrument he acquired a TR707 and recorded 'Mysteries Of Love' in 1984. His legendary 'Can You Feel It' soon followed. Click blog title to listen to a 1 hour live set held at Mannheim's Zimmer club in Germany, courtesy of RBMA.

Digga~ Broken

On a recent visit to Digga's myspace, it would appear to me he no longer is heart broken. He's gotta have it now and it's major, a dependency, like a drug...Her tasty love is what Digga refers to as he sings with such a distinctive voice, and one that projects a certain impact...A voice am sure that every street wise uber cool kid will idolise. So lady please, give a lil piece of that tasty lovin you got for Digga, cos I'd rather see him get it than be left broken! The young entrepreneur earlier this year launched his own record label called Blaquesheep Records.

Serge Santiágo And Italo Disco

“The shit they did in those days blows me away at times. It’s a different kind of energy, makes you dance in a different way,” says London based DJ/producer Serge Santiágo. He’s talking about Italo disco, a sound introduced to him by former Radio Slave partner and fellow Stompa Phunk resident Matt Edwards, which forever changed his musical mindset. After crafting remixes for Kylie Minogue, Fisherspooner, White Stripes and Tiga with Edwards, Santiago left Radio Slave in 2005 and launched his own label, Arcobaleno (”rainbow” in Italian), and started his highly successful colored vinyl edit series. Earlier this year, he remixed Hercules & Love Affair’s “Blind,” and he continues to spin all over the place.

Guest Mix: Serge Santiágo
1. The Galactic Force Band / “Space Dust” (Intro)
2. Aminpeck / “Anxiety” (Outro Dub)
3. Kevin Saunderson feat. Inner City / “Good Love” (Luciano Remix)
4. Patrice B-umel / “Roar”
5. Retro/Grade / “Moda”
6. Gino Soccio / “There’s a Woman”
7. Droids / “The Force” (Serge Santiago Maxi Edit)

Slip In And Out of Phenomenon By Liquid Liquid

Space, particularly inner headspace was big news in the early eighties. Manhattan's Liquid Liquid the quartet of Scott Hartley Richard McGuire, Salvatore Principato and Dennis Young effortlessly melded and shaped there own, very groovy, space. Loose but tight, edgy and inviting, both dry and wet, the phrase Slip In And Out of Phenomenon, the title of this retrospective collection - and the vocal hook from their most infamous track Cavern - perfectly nails both the sound and the sensation of listening to Liquid Liquid. Over little more than 3 EPs in their lifetime Liquid Liquid rerouted the rythmns of the subway and the steam of the city to some imagined African nighttime future.
